Why use this

Students read a script aloud once, call it rehearsed, and freeze on stage. Three runs with a different focus each time (words, moves, then voice) is how a scene actually gets ready.

A role card makes the actor decide what the character wants before they say a line. Every choice about voice and movement follows from that.

How to run it

  1. 1.Read the script aloud as a class, swapping readers each speech. Ask what each character wants.8 min
  2. 2.Pairs fill in their role cards on Sheet A.8 min
  3. 3.Run 1: words. Read on your feet, script in hand. Fix any line you stumble on.8 min
  4. 4.Run 2: moves. Block the scene on Sheet B, then walk it. Script down if you can.10 min
  5. 5.Run 3: voice. Say each line the way the role card says. Checklist on Sheet C.8 min
  6. 6.Show two pairs. Audience names one thing the voice or movement told them.3 min
